Privacy policy

Readia has no accounts. You never give us your name, email address or any other detail about yourself to use the app.

What stays on your phone

Your flashcards, review history, streak and settings are stored only in the app's database on your phone. We can't see them, and they are deleted when you uninstall the app.

Reading aloud uses your phone's own text-to-speech engine, and study reminders are scheduled on your phone. Neither sends anything to us.

Reading episodes

The app loads episodes from readia.app when you open it or an episode. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address to our hosting provider, Cloudflare, which delivers them. We don't store these requests or link them to you.

Anonymous usage statistics

To learn which episodes and features help people practice, the app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog, hosted in the European Union. They are tied to a random identifier created on your phone, never to you. Each event carries the language you are learning, and PostHog adds the app version, your phone's model, operating system and language, and a rough location (country and city) worked out from the request. The events are:

  • the app being opened or sent to the background,
  • finishing an episode (its series, level and how many questions you got right),
  • finishing listening to an episode (and the speech speed),
  • opening a sentence's translation (the episode's series and level),
  • finishing a review session (how many cards you reviewed, knew and didn't know),
  • adding a card or a word pack.

If you tap "Wrong meaning?" under a word, the app sends the word, the meaning it showed and the episode, so we can fix it. Nothing you type in your cards is ever sent.

Nothing is sent before you finish the first screen of the app, and you can turn these statistics off at any time in Settings. We don't sell this data or use it for advertising.

This website

readia.app counts page views with PostHog, hosted in the European Union: the page, the page that sent you here, your browser, device type and a rough location (country and city) worked out from the request. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser, so a visit isn't linked to your next one or to the app.

Children

Readia is not directed at children under 13.
